the scope of humanities

v  The humanities is many faceted subject. It consists of the:
1.      Visual Art
2.      Literature
3.      Drama and Theater
4.      Music
5.      Dance

v  Visual Art- are art forms that create works that are primarily visual in nature, such as ceramicsdrawingpaintingsculptureprintmaking,designcraftsphotographyvideofilmmaking and architecture. These definitions should not be taken too strictly as many artistic disciplines (performing artsconceptual arttextile arts) involve aspects of the visual arts as well as arts of other types.

v  Are those that we perceive with our eyes? It may be classified into two groups:
v  Graphic Arts (flat, or two-dimensional surface)
v  Plastic Arts (three dimensional )

Types of 2-dimensional surface
a.      Painting- is the practice of applying paintpigmentcolor or other medium to a surface (support base). The medium is commonly applied to the base with a brush but other implements, such as knives, sponges, and airbrushes, can be used. In art, the term painting describes both the act and the result of the action.

 Drawing- Is a form of visual art that makes use of any number of drawing instruments to mark a two-dimensional medium. Instruments used include graphite pencils, pen and ink, inked brushes, wax color pencils, crayons, charcoal, chalk, pastels, various kinds of erasers, markers, styluses, and various metals (such as silverpoint).









v  Graphic Processes
1.      Relief Painting- is the process where by unwanted portions of design are cut away on the master image







2.      Intaglio Printing – includes all process in which printing is done from a flat (plane) surface.
a.       Lithography- is the art or process of printing from a flat stone or metal plate by a method on the repulsion between grease and water.
b. Silkscreen- is stretched over a rectangular frame and unwanted portion in the design arte blocked out.

f. photography

3.      Plastic Art – this group include all fields of the visual in which material are organized into three-dimensional forms
a.      Architecture
b.      Landscape architecture
c.       City planning
d.      Interior design
e.       sculpture
f.       Industrial design
g.      Dress and costume design
h.      Theater design

Literature- the art of combining spoken or written words and their meaning into forms which have artistic and emotional appeal is called literature

1.      Drama
2.      Essay prose fiction poetry miscellaneous

Music- is the art of arranging sounds in rhythmic succession and generally in combination.
Music composition fall into three groups

1.      Vocal Music-is composed primarily to be song
v  Vocal music can describe any music produced by the human voice, but is generally differentiated from choral music, which is sung by large groups. Because its instrument is the body itself, it is the most primal music produced by humans and is common to all cultures. It is most frequently expressed as song, words sung to a melody.
2.      Instrumental Music- Music of third kind is written for is instrumants of four general types

3.      Music Combined with other arts
1.      Opera- is a drama set to Music
